LAW, rock band from Long Beach, CA featuring vocalist Jakob Nowell (son of the late Sublime singer Bradley Nowell) will step into the studio with renowned recording engineer Steve Albini this week in Chicago.
While in December 2018, LAW released its first official full length LP “There and Back Again”, and its subsequent first single and video for the song “Cold”, the groups prolific writing sessions have yielded new demos which will be tracked and mixed with Albini this week in his Electric Audio studio. Pre-production and arrangement on selected material was also overseen by producer/engineer Matt Bayles who has worked with Mastodon, Pearl Jam, The Sword and Alice In Chains, amongst others.
Interestingly enough the session was an idea of a fan of the band, due to his own curiosity as to how the band would sound w Albini behind the board at his analog Electric Audio studio complex.
Albini well known for his production work on Nirvana’s “In Utero” and the Pixies “Surfer Rosa” was also a member of influential punk d.i.y. indie bands Big Black, Rapeman, and Shellac, and is often outspoken about the recording industry’s mainstream production techniques and banal pop music regurgitation.
Following the sessions, LAW will be performing in Chicago and Florida for the first time in their young career, before returning to the west coast for a performance in Phoenix, AZ on 4/20/19 at Days On The Green Festival alongside Slightly Stoopid & Sublime With Rome, Dirty Heads and Fortunate Youth.
