Flying Guillotines – ‘Holy Mountain’ Out Now

The Berlin based band Flying Guillotines is a 4-Man Stoner / Metal / Heavy Rock Train that is currently looking for shows in Berlin, Germany and beyond.

Influenced by Bands such as Red Fang, Mastodon, Baroness and The Mars Volta, Flying Guillotines play a powerful mix of heavy riffs, powerful drums, snarling bass grooves and intricate vocal harmonies!

Formed by Frontman Marcus Engel and Guitarist Jürgen Roth in 2012 the Band released their first Ep “Sailors Lullaby” later that year and became a part of the Metal Hammer Magazine compilation “SONS OF SABBATH Vol. 11” with their song “Forgotten Kingdom” and has received extensive radio play across Europe.

Flying Guillotines were featured on DOOM METAL FRONT 2017 with their “Monster EP” and are now back with a brand new self-produced 6 Track EP called  “Holy Mountain”.

Flying Guillotines was founded by Frontman Marcus Engel and Guitarist Jürgen Roth (Ex XOX Guitarist). Both met at a mutual friends (Brightons One-Man-Punkband Young Francis) birthday party in 2012 and realized they had similar interest in music and styles of playing and were soon together looking for a Bassist and a Drummer to create a band that would deliver both: their love for different heavy rock styles and an outlet of own creativity and ideas of redefining their idea of Stoner Rock.

Soon they found Drummer Guillermo Cruz from Venezuela and Jon Mujika from the Basque Country on Bass to start a Band. By October 2012 the Band was ready to play with a little Live-Set of 8 Songs and a name that should be a homage to the 1971 Taiwanese Wuxia classic “The Master Of The Flying Guillotine”, Flying Guillotines was born. From there on Flying Guillotines played several shows in Berlin and worked with Berlins Booking Agency Trinity Booking to support several Bands in and around Berlin.
In September 2014 the band was invited via a friend to play two shows on the island of Tenerife including the Summer Sundown Festival.

After Drummer Guillermo decided to leave the band due to personal reasons, Australian Drummer Che Fisher joined the Band in 2015 for almost a year were the band started recording their second (never finished) EP and playing support shows for Wilson (Detroit, Michigan). After personal and creative difficulties Fisher had to leave the band and Tamino Kirchner (Ex Black Math Generator), with whom Marcus went to school with and also played in a band called Dirty White Socks joined Marcus and Jürgen. After burying their personal difficulties Marcus and Tamino decided to join forces again and started working together in 2016. By the beginning of 2017 two new Songs (Monster EP) were finished and released to be an appetizer to a planed first Record.

The Record was never finised due to a redeployment on Bass after Jon Mujika had to leave the band after a Show played with “Dream the Electric Sleep”(Lexington, KY USA).
Shortly after that, long time friend and Guitarist Sean Elleman (Ex Seatta Bloody Seatta) who was looking for a new project by that time joined Marcus, Jürgen and Tamino on Bass.
During the next 10 months Flying Guillotines redefined their Sound and wrote and rewrote 10 Songs and started working on their finally second EP “Holy Mountain”. Recordings and the official release date had to be rescheduled due to an emergency operation on singer Marcus´his vocal chords.

After a 4 week recovery and two more months of recording, mixing and mastering (all by the band an Marcus Engel himself) the band finally released “Holy Mountain” on March 17th 2018. The Band is now booking as many shows as possible for 2018 and planing a Mini-Tour later in September as well as a Vinyl release of their “Holy Mountain” EP later this year.
